Motel 6 Amarillo, TX - West

This place felt unsafe and the owner seemed not to care. People were drunk outside, rummaging through the dumpster, and homeless people walked the stairs all night clapping their hands. There were loud dogs running through the parking lot, ladies of the night knocking on doors, and feces, trash, needles, and broken-down cars in the lot. The owner was outside urinating on the side of the building and seemed drunk. The room was gross: rats and roaches ran around, and the dingy brown sheets had what looked like feces stains. The comforters, sheets, and blankets on both beds had holes. I found bed bugs, too. The pool had animal feces in it. There was no hot water, the bathroom sink wouldn't drain, and the toilet made a roaring noise when flushed. One mattress had a huge dip and a broken frame. Wi-Fi kept cutting out, and the TV remote had no batteries. Only five channels came in, all snowy. The staff and owner were rude. I wouldn't wish this dump on my worst enemy.

The lobby was gorgeous, the staff were welcoming, and the location right off the freeway was convenient. Our room was huge and mostly clean, and the bed was comfortable. Despite requesting a smoke-free room, stale cigarette smoke filled it. The bathtub had a dirty ring from the previous guest, and there was a cigarette burn on the comforter. Breakfast was a letdown: no coffee, an unplugged juice machine, warm tap water, and no eggs or sausage as advertised. They did have cold bottled water, waffles, biscuits, and gravy, but no muffins, fruit, or yogurt. The front desk called the owner without getting a solution. I don't expect a Holiday Inn experience, but I do expect what's advertised. A patron told me they often don't have what they advertise. It's a shame, because this place could be great. It needs better owner management and housekeeping supervision. The little things matter.

Kari was the best front desk person I've ever met for hospitality. My kids weren't going to take a bath that night, but she offered a little bubble bath and gave us some extra soap and towels. She was incredibly kind. We're from Paducah, and we're so grateful to her and to God for meeting her. My kids are clean and warm, and we have a stellar room. Special thanks to Carrie. We appreciate everyone at this Motel 6 from the bottom of our hearts, and hope other locations learn from its great management, ownership, and hospitality staff. Thank you, Motel 6!

They quoted $59.99 for the room, then charged $89. Breakfast was supposed to be ready in the morning, but I waited 45 minutes past the stated time and had to leave without eating. They don't seem to care. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
