OYO Hotel Amarillo Downtown

The front desk staff were the only good part of my stay. They were kind and mostly helpful, but the rooms were awful. I switched out of my first room because it was intolerable, and the second was just as bad. Though the rooms are meant to be smoke-free, I went through half a bottle of Febreze just to stand the smell. The bedspread was stained, the sheets so thin I could see the mattress, and the bathroom smelled bad and felt dirty. The bedside lamp had a chewed-up cord. The Wi-Fi either didn't reach the room or wasn't working. I asked for a blanket or clean quilt, but was told they'd been put away for winter and staff couldn't get to them. The ground-floor rooms also have no deadbolts. I know it's a budget hotel, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it was your last option. I wish I'd read the reviews more carefully before booking.

The front desk staff were nice, and for the price the room was decent. But the TV, fridge, and microwave worked only some of the time, and there was no hot water for a bath. The area didn't feel like the best part of town, and I worried that safety and security could become a bigger problem at any moment. The cleaning staff were extremely rude, yelling at guests to leave because they didn't want them there. I definitely won't stay again.

This was a very bad place to stay and work. I've stayed there and worked in the laundry, so I know what I'm talking about. Housekeepers take guests' belongings and any cash left out, and one guest found needles in a drawer. When people tell the front desk about problems, staff get mad that they have to fix them. They may also keep your deposit, so check the sheets and towels, which are often badly stained, because they could charge you for that. It's the cheapest place I've seen, and I'd recommend Motel 6 instead.

I couldn't lock the room. There was a note telling me to lock the door, but no chain, no flip-over lock, and the deadbolt didn't work. The room was badly run down, and the nonrefundable booking left me feeling stuck. The front desk employee was extremely rude. The website said early check-in was available for an extra fee, but she said it wasn't an option. She also insisted on a required $50 deposit. I showed her that the booking site said nothing about it, but she charged my card anyway. She made me sign a receipt, refused to give me a copy or let me photograph it, and said I'd receive one at checkout. I never did, even when I checked out. Other people were having trouble with her while I was there too. I will never stay at an OYO hotel again. It was the worst hotel experience I've had.
