Hampton Inn Americus

I’ve stayed here several times in recent years, and everyone has been really nice. The rooms were clean. This visit, though, I’d booked a king by phone and arrived to find it had been changed to a queen. They said there’d been a booking error and the king was already taken when I booked. A call ahead of time would’ve been helpful in case I wanted to cancel. They apologized and gave me one of the larger queen rooms.

The check-in clerk was extremely nice, and she even came to sort out the TV signal so we could watch college football. But after paying $180 for one night, we felt we deserved at least a partial refund for everything else that went wrong. The clerk didn’t offer one. We won’t stay here again, and I’d tell people to look in another town for a nice hotel. The night before, we paid half as much at Laquinta Inn for a wonderful, clean room. Hampton Inn Americus, GA, this isn’t a good name for Hampton Inn. You should be ashamed. Our room smelled of marijuana, and the smoke detector started beeping because its battery was dead. We got a 9 volt battery, and the helpful front desk woman had to dig through a desk drawer to find another one. Maintenance had gone home, so we replaced it ourselves. We didn’t realize that battery wouldn’t last, and at 5:00 AM the alarm went off and woke us up. The carpet was filthy, the TV initially had no signal, and there were little bits of trash beside the bathroom sink cabinet. In the shower, I noticed a dried washcloth hanging from the curtain rod that had been used by another guest. I also saw the kitchen and tourist inspections posted in the breakfast area. The tourist inspection score was 84 due to many violations.

I had to cancel on the day of my stay. I’m a Life Time Diamond member and usually use the HHonors app to book, change, or cancel. The app didn’t say I’d be charged or that cancellation wasn’t allowed. When that restriction applies, it has always said, “you cannot cancel this reservation.” The hotel charged me anyway, and when I tried to discuss it with them, they wouldn’t credit my card. I’ll never stay here or recommend it. The diamond desk has been very helpful in trying to get my payment refunded.

This is the nastiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’m retired military and bald, yet there was a disgusting amount of hair in the room. The light fixture was coming off the ceiling. I bought Lysol, shown in photo #2, and house shoes because of all the hair. I was in Americus to visit my son, a student at Georgia Southwestern. Next time I’ll stay farther from town. There just aren’t many choices there.
