Baymont by Wyndham Ames

The rooms were clean and the staff were accommodating and attentive. It’s a modest place without all the amenities some people might want, but the people working here make up for that. For the price, it was an absolute bargain. I’ll come back when I’m in the area.

The Wi-Fi wasn’t working when I got to my room. The front desk said it had been down since that afternoon, but there’d been no mention of it when I booked or checked in. They gave no other option and didn’t say they were trying to fix it. With a room number, I could have connected to the Marriott across the street, but Baymont didn’t offer anything like that. There was a sign saying the pool was closed, which also hadn’t been mentioned online. I’d already seen the online notice that the fitness room was closed and didn’t mind, since I didn’t need the treadmill. When I drove up, an exterior light was flashing constantly. I mentioned it at check-in, and the desk clerk said it had been doing that for a week. Not worth the price difference. I’d avoid this place.

The hotel is right in the center of Ames, which I liked most. The room was very clean, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. Service felt very professional.

I gave up after waiting four hours with no room and found a better hotel. I’d booked more than a month ahead and had been told check-in was at 3 p.m. Once I arrived, though, they kept giving me different estimates for when the room might be ready. I had my child with me and we couldn’t keep waiting. The maids were supposed to be cleaning rooms, but they were outside on their phones. Other people were drinking in the parking lot. The management was terrible. Run from this hotel.
