The front desk woman was very accommodating and moved us to a room with a bathtub, and the rooms themselves were very nice. This wasn't her fault, but the hotel should have clearly said when we booked and paid that the pool and hot tub were closed for maintenance. We chose the place specifically for those advertised amenities. By check-in, our card had already been charged, and switching hotels would have been a bigger hassle. If the price had reflected the missing amenities, it probably wouldn't have felt so bad.

Every day brought a problem I haven't had at other hotels, and this wasn't what I expected from a three-star Hilton. On the first day, my bed had clearly been slept in when I entered the room, though they did give me another one. The next morning, I missed the sign at the end of the buffet saying continental breakfast was charged, and was handed a $15 check for something that's normally free at every hotel I've stayed at. The following day, room service came into my room without knocking. The shower was also so clogged with old hair that it could barely drain, even though I have very short hair.

For our recent three-day corporate event, the Hilton Garden Inn Ames team made it easy for us to focus on the meeting. Staff worked together smoothly, and their professionalism and wish to help us succeed showed in every interaction. They handled last-minute changes and special requests flexibly. The meeting rooms were set up just right, catering was excellent, technical support flawless, and details like room setup and refreshment timing were handled precisely. From the early planning through the final farewell, the hospitality was outstanding. Thank you, Allie, Nichole, Michelle, Mason, and everyone at Hilton Garden Inn Ames for making the event such a success.

After a long trip with the kids, the kind, helpful service and clean, great room were such a relief. Absolutely exceptional. We'll definitely be back.

I was shaken by this and contacted the front desk after returning to my room. Later, I was told I wouldn't be charged. That addresses the bill, but not the public embarrassment, discriminatory treatment, or distress I experienced. No one should feel unwelcome or suspected while eating breakfast they're entitled to. Management needs to take this seriously, because this points to a failure in staff training and oversight and raises concerns about how guests of color are treated here. I sat down with two Danish pastries at the complimentary breakfast buffet included with my stay. A tall white male server immediately put a check on my table. When I said I was a hotel guest, didn't have my wallet, and could settle any charges at checkout, he sharply insisted I had to pay there. Rather than handle it professionally, he rudely demanded my room number and signature on the check. I then saw two white guests in the same area eat without being given a check or questioned, either when they sat down or afterward. I was the only one singled out and pressured. This was racial profiling. It felt like I was expected to prove I belonged or could pay while white guests were trusted automatically. The treatment was humiliating and degrading, especially at a hotel that says it values hospitality and inclusivity.
