Hyatt Place Buffalo/Amherst

The breakfast was great, with lots of choices and plenty of seating, and the front desk staff were wonderful. The hotel looks very nice at first, with a clean site and good curb appeal. Its location worked well for us, near Bills stadium, Niagara Falls, Canada, and downtown Buffalo. I booked because of the good reviews, and I'd consider staying again if housekeeping improves. Housekeeping was the problem. I could tell our sheets hadn't been changed because bits of my chipped nail polish kept turning up in the bed. Dirty towels were taken away without fresh ones being left. Our phone didn't work, so we had to walk to the desk every time we needed something. In the morning, room service dumped our coffee in the sink, left it dirty, and left the used cups in the room. When I asked for a clean cup, they rinsed the old ones and put them back by the coffee maker, still visibly stained with coffee. I don't understand why they did that.

The bar is a real highlight, with a great selection and an easygoing atmosphere that works well for a drink before or after a game. Breakfast is basic but convenient, and the Hyatt rewards program helps make stays more affordable over time. This has become my regular place for Buffalo Bills home games. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and well kept, and the value is excellent. Staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, and handle busy game weekends well. A dependable base for Bills fans. The breakfast was excellent, with a good spread, nice presentation, and very good food. Staff were attentive, pleasant, and responsive. That's why I'm giving two stars instead of zero. The cleanliness was poor. The hallways badly needed vacuuming. I found a used condom in the middle of one and reported it to the front desk, who had it removed shortly after. I stayed two nights, and the halls still weren't vacuumed during that time. I work in hospitality management, so I know what to look for. The bathroom's frosted glass sliding door had gaps all around it when closed, and you could see the user's silhouette moving behind it. There was no real sound, smell, or visual privacy if sharing the room. The shower doors were also installed incorrectly. They wouldn't slide shut properly, and the handles were on the opposite, wrong side.

Everything was nice and clean, and we had a great room with good service. The front desk staff were polite and friendly, and seemed happy to be working there. My one complaint is that the cleaning staff were loud while working in nearby rooms and talking in the hallway.
