Super 8 Amsterdam

As a truck driver, I appreciated that there was room to park my truck. The hotel was nice and clearly renovated, and everything in my clean room worked well, including the heater, AC, TV, and the lights and plugs by the bed for charging my phone. Highly recommend.

I was here for about a week and came away disappointed, especially after reading other reviews. My room seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned at all. The bedding, bathroom, shower, and shower liner were dirty, there were dried red gel spots around the room, and the table, desk, and nightstand had stains. Finding hair in the ice bucket made me sick. I expect better from a big chain. When I complained, the front desk said they’d clean it, and they did, but I also heard an employee say staff don’t like doing their jobs. Near checkout, my key stopped working well before the checkout time. The replacement key didn’t work either. Then the upper lock somehow flipped shut when I closed the door, leaving me locked out of my room. The manager had a tool to get it open, but it took more than 20 minutes. The manager and I even banged into the door, and my shoulder hurt so much I couldn’t feel it until the next morning. This motel needs serious work on staffing and operating procedures.

Inside was fine when I visited, even though the exterior looked messy from renovation work as of October 2025. The Super 8 in Amsterdam delivered the budget basics I expected: friendly staff, a clean room, a nice-sized flat TV, a comfortable bed, and a hot shower, though the pressure was weak. They welcomed me bringing my bicycle into the room. If you’re biking, be ready for a steep hill up from Canal Trail. It’s next to the Thruway but surprisingly quiet. There aren’t restaurants nearby, so bring food or head into the city. Breakfast is basic, with muffins, coffee, and juice.

It was cool the night I stayed, and the heat was off in the room. It took a while to get the place warm, even with the setting turned up high. Then I spent part of the night trying to find a comfortable temperature.
