Kona Inn Motel Anaheim

It was a horrible place to stay, with crummy service. We asked for towels and were told they wouldn’t bring any until morning, which made it seem like they didn’t care what guests needed. The building was half burned down, and they were still letting people stay there, which seemed crazy. There were strange stains on all the sheets, holes in the walls, and dirty doors and surfaces. Walking barefoot on the carpet left our feet black.

The front desk person barely acknowledged me. Once we saw the room, we stayed only long enough to understand what a mistake we’d made, then checked out and booked somewhere else. I didn’t take photos because I wanted to spend as little time in there as possible. There were cigarette burns and nasty looking stains on the beds, hair in the bathroom, and a toilet that wouldn’t flush. The graffiti on the walls looked barely painted over. There wasn’t a TV remote either, though that was the least of the problems. If I could give zero stars, I would. Don’t stay here.

The rooms were clean, modernized, and surprisingly nicely decorated, and the price was the cheapest in the area. The neighborhood felt safe enough, and the parking lot was enclosed and very well lit. The beds were comfortable and the linens soft, though the room only had three pillows and one blanket. I wasn’t comfortable being asked for a $10 cash deposit for the room key, which had a sticker with my room number on it. I thought the room number shouldn’t be on a key for security reasons. Around 8:30 pm I asked in the lobby for another pillow and blanket. The manager was grumpy and said he couldn’t get to the linens because the housekeeper had left. He stomped away, returned with a pillow, and thrust it into my hands, saying I was lucky he found one and should be grateful even though it had no pillowcase. So, it’s clean and well priced, but be ready for a grumpy manager.
