Angel Fire Resort Lodge

The room was really spacious, and the lift is super close. The pub is just down the street too. I would’ve given it five stars if the hotel bar and restaurant had been open.

The room could use better chairs. A recliner after a day of skiing would be wonderful, though a decent desk chair is really the basic need. There’s also a strange electric fireplace that clicks pretty loudly until you find the little off switch on its left side. In the bathroom, there’s no exhaust fan or handrails for the step-up shower. I also wish there were a one-page guide to the restaurants and amenities. We had to figure everything out by trial and error. It was expensive, though we didn’t look for discounts. The place is clean and well maintained, with a large bedroom, nice bathroom fixtures, and large bath towels. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. It seems the facility was renovated at some point. There’s a ski storage room on the ground floor, plus a nice coffee shop and restaurant. Access to the slope and lift involves lots of stairs and a long walk. There’s only one hot tub for the whole facility, but we had no trouble getting in. The front desk has towels for the pool and hot tub, though you have to know to ask.

My family and I took a weekend trip recently and stayed in a cabin. We wanted good coffee, so we stopped by the lodge’s small hotel store, which sells souvenirs and coffee. The gentleman serving us seemed annoyed and was very rude. We let it go and came back on Sunday, but he treated us the same way. When he gave us our change, he tossed it on the counter, almost as if he didn’t want to touch our hand. His manner changed when another group came in, and they were white. I’m a Hispanic woman and have never experienced racism before, but I felt our race was the problem. I could be wrong, though I highly doubt it.

We were on our way to Ojo Caliente over the pass when a snowstorm stopped us, so we turned around and were lucky to find The Lodge in Angel Fire. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and very nice, and the pool and hot tub were a bonus. Breakfast the next morning was surprisingly good. Breakfast burritos can be hit or miss, but their homemade touch really worked for me. Service was outstanding throughout, and we’d definitely stay here again.
