We had the pleasure of staying here on Nov 21, and Ramona helped with all our questions. She went out of her way to get our room ready for Nov 29, though we had to cancel that stay because of the weather. We knew we'd be charged when we canceled, and our comment that this didn't seem right was meant for corporate, not this location or its staff, who have always been amazing. On our long drive back to Indiana yesterday, Mr Keenan called and kindly told us we wouldn't be charged because of the weather. He also wished us a safe trip home. That's why we only stay at Home 2 Suites when we travel, and we wish Sioux City had one too.

The rooms are nice and clean, and otherwise this hotel would be good, but I couldn't sleep either time I stayed here. The under-window AC unit is extremely loud, then shuts off in the middle of the night and the room gets too hot. The window doesn't open, so there's no way to get relief. I think it may be motion sensing and turns off when you don't move at night. I stayed in two different rooms and had the same problem, so I can't stay here anymore.

I came for a wedding and had a terrible experience with the room door. The key card deactivated every time, so front desk staff had to come unlock it manually. One night, our inside bolt somehow locked and kept us out for hours, from the night before the wedding into the early morning. I was the MOH and had to be up in a few hours. The front desk girl said we'd get a refund for one night, maybe both, but we never did. After many calls, Hilton's internal customer service team kept saying the manager would contact me, but she never did. Eventually a Hilton customer service member called the manager, who said she'd offer only a $50 credit. I still never got a call from her or that promised credit, and higher management never called either. I'm a Hilton member and have usually had good experiences, but this could have been handled much more professionally. I don't recommend it.

My co-worker and I took a chance on this hotel and would stay again without hesitation. The lobby was lovely, with several places to sit, and the check-in employee was kind and made pleasant conversation. There was a Peloton in the workout room. Our rooms were spacious, clean, and had a full table. The coffee was good, and breakfast was fresh, tasty, and well stocked. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews; I stayed two days ago and thought the hotel was lovely.

The location near nightlife and dining was a plus, and the room was clean enough with cold AC. Still, this stay felt pretty mediocre and below the standard I expect as a Hilton loyalist who travels a lot for work. We arrived an hour before check-in, but the room wasn't ready for early check-in. That's understandable on a busy Des Moines weekend, though disappointing. In the morning we found the wall-mounted shampoo and conditioner bottles completely empty, so we used body wash to get by for our one-night stay. The bathroom was also a bit of a disaster: the toilet paper holder and faucet were broken. None of those issues alone is a huge deal, but the string of little problems was bothersome enough to write about.
