Sleep Inn & Suites Ankeny - Des Moines

We planned to leave our bags here, use the pool, then head home after my daughter's birthday party. When we arrived, they said they couldn't serve us because there wasn't enough room. Everyone had to gather their things and every kid was told to leave. Unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Myla at the front desk rescued a reservation mix-up. Somehow I had booked two rooms a month earlier, and she sorted it out and was incredibly helpful. Good customer service like that is rare. Breakfast was great too, and since our son will be going to school nearby, we'll be back here many times.

My semi truck broke down Friday, and I was told repairs would take two days. Kenworth in ankeny finished it in one. But this hotel, with Perva Atell the general manager, won't refund the second night because I checked out late at 1:30 and they say I had to pay for that day. They seem to care more about the money than their customers. Damn shame.

We were there five nights for a tournament, and by the end I was ready to leave. The place smelled damp, musty and mildewy, with some cooking odors too. They told us to keep the fan on constantly at 65, but that was too cold and our clothes felt even damper. The towels were extremely thin, breakfast was just okay, and the smell was hard to ignore. The bathroom in our room was nice and the shower had no mildew stains. Staff were kind and tried to help, though after a while I stopped asking. Maybe fine for one night.
