WoodSpring Suites Ankeny Des Moines

I paid almost $1,400 for a stay of nearly a month, but mixed up my dates and tried to check in one day later. When I called to explain, the receptionist was nasty and immediately went off the deep end. She said they couldn't accommodate me and my family, had no rooms left, and wouldn't refund anything because I booked through a third party. Being denied the room with no refund while trying to save for a rental home was terrible. I'd stayed here before and put up with people on drugs staying awake all night because it was affordable. I won't book here again.

There was nobody at the desk when I arrived or when I left. The hotel was quiet for the most part, and having washers and dryers was handy. It was a pleasant stay overall, though a bit spendy, but I guess that's Ankeny.

I only stayed briefly, checking in late after a Halloween wedding and leaving very early for a funeral. The staff were friendly enough, but I found a cockroach crawling on the dress I planned to wear tomorrow. I'll be checking for bed bugs and making sure no more roaches are in my bags, so I don't take anything home. The second floor also smelled a bit like weed. We had to take our own trash with us, which seems like something I pay them to handle. The place felt low-class and grossed me out. I left early and won't return. I'd spring for a better hotel.

It's clean and fine as a place to sleep, but I won't stay here again. The carpet needs replacing, the walls need paint even though they're clean, and the whole hotel needs an update. They charge $50 if you don't take out your garbage, make a mess, or don't clean up after yourself. The place is mediocre at best.
