The breakfast was a big part of the stay for me. Sitting around that large round table, chatting with people we’d never met, often carried on into a second coffee. That’s the kind of BnB experience I love, and they actually serve breakfast. We stayed in the first-floor green room over Valentine’s Day weekend, booked directly through the website. The inn is full of eclectic art and antiques, with Japanese and African influences, and I loved it. The bed was very comfortable, with plenty of pillows and linen for a cozy weekend together. The bathroom was outside the room but private, and that arrangement never caused an issue. Robes were provided, and the bathroom had a great walk-in shower and a Toto Bidet, which has converted me. Sarah was gracious, attentive, and had good ideas for things to do and places to eat. I’d like to come back.

We parked once and left the car alone all weekend. There’s plenty to do around Ann Arbor, and the B&B is in a safe area within walking distance of restaurants, football, and sights. We stayed in the upstairs Gold room, a standard bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom shared with one other room. It was always available, just four steps away, and sharing it was no problem for us. The bathroom was very clean, with attractive tile. Sarah, the proprietor, is delightful and knows the area well. Breakfast was very good and clearly planned with care. We were busy with U of M football, shopping, and meals out. There’s no television, so TV watchers should plan to go elsewhere for that. It felt comfortable and homey, and I’d recommend it for a visit to Ann Arbor.

Being a short walk from downtown Ann Arbor and the U of M campus makes Burnt Toast Inn a great base, and we’re planning to book there again. Sarah and her sweet dog Gus made us feel welcome from the start. She offered useful suggestions, and little touches like coffee makers near our room added to the homey feel. The breakfasts were delicious too. We had a wonderful stay.

We liked being able to meet other guests over breakfast, one reason we prefer B&Bs to hotels. It was also nice to keep fruit in the fridge and use the kitchen when we needed something. Our upstairs room had an en suite bathroom and was spacious, clean, comfortable, and homey without being fancy. The bed was very comfortable, the shower got nice and hot, and there were plenty of towels, toiletries, and thoughtful extras. Sarah helped with restaurant ideas and our plans. Breakfast came with bread, fruit, yogurt, coffeecake, coffee, and juice, with eggs and sausage offered too. We were already full from the nearby restaurants. Main St is a 5-10 minute walk, and there’s great ice cream two blocks away. We also paid a day fee to exercise at the Y, two blocks away. The residential neighborhood was quiet, and street parking was free. Gus, the inn’s dog, was especially friendly. We’d never been to Ann Arbor before and chose Burnt Toast Inn after seeing good reviews.

The Master Bedroom was a lovely place to stay, with a comfortable bed and a tub. The inn has a charming, personal feel, with art, colors, textiles, and furnishings that are eclectic without being showy. Sarah and her dog, Gus, were kind, friendly hosts. Breakfast was tasty and generous, with lots of choices. We spent two nights and hope to return.
