Thayer's Historic Bed n' Breakfast

The manager did take my entree off the bill after I asked, but was defensive while trying to justify what had happened. I sent it back to the kitchen, which I've only had to do once before in my life. We're local and decided to try the restaurant, and it was disappointing, to say the least. The food was low quality and subpar, despite our experience dining out at all kinds of restaurants with different cuisines and service levels. As we left, the manager was dealing with a separate complaint at another table. During our meal, we heard them say the ribs were dry and overcooked. In my opinion, there are much better places to spend money on a meal around here. I'd skip this one.

The food's flavor was fine, but it all came out cold. We went for dinner with family, and by the time the food arrived, some meals were missing. The sides also came at different times from the entrees. When we told the server, the assistant manager got argumentative and defensive, asking if we'd ever worked in a restaurant before storming off. The owner came out a little later. We tried to explain, and he asked whether we were calling his sister a liar. Nothing got resolved. We paid and will never go back.

The menu has plenty to choose from, and the food was good, about what you'd expect from most restaurants in the area. It's worth a visit for the hotel's history. I get the sense they're doing their best, and I hope they can keep the place going for years. It has so much character, and we need more places like it.

The staff were helpful and listened to my ghost stories, while I tried to hear theirs about the Thayer Inn. The building is definitely very haunted, though most of the activity is said to be on the second and third floors where the Inn's rooms are. The Inn and ghost tours have closed, but they might let you go up to the second floor to look around. Just ask where the bathrooms are up there. We came late on a Saturday and were the only table in the place. If you're after excellent award winning food, you should go here. My wife said her side salad with ranch was the best she's ever had. We love salads, so that says a lot. The only bummer was that it didn't come with the meal. I had the Sirloin and Ribs, and my wife ordered the Filet Oscar. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the ribs were perfectly smoked. Writing this is making my mouth water. The waiter said the chef has won awards for his Ribs and other entrees. My wife was quiet while eating too. Her bacon wrapped Filet was so tender it melted in her mouth, and she told me the bacon with hollandaise sauce, asparagus, and seafood, either crab or lobster, was incredible. We both chose loaded baked potatoes as our sides, great choices.
