Hampton Inn & Suites Annapolis

The lobby looked worn and dated, and the rooms were in awful shape by Hampton Inn standards. Our first had holes in the walls, a peeling ceiling, and old furniture coming apart. I've never seen a Hampton Inn maintained this poorly. We asked to move, but the replacement room wasn't any better. The bathroom was filthy, the shower was nasty, and the furniture was badly beaten up. There was even pubic hair on the nightstand. We called Hilton and they arranged for us to move to another hotel.

I usually choose Hampton Inns because I expect them to be clean and nice, so this room was a huge disappointment. The fire alarm had been ripped off the wall, leaving a crumbling hole, and the thermostat was missing with screw holes left behind. The toilet lid came right off in my hand. Hand soap and lotion dispensers had been pulled off the wall and left on the sink, and the bathtub soap dispenser was torn off too. The veneer on the fridge door was peeling. We told the front desk about the room, but the guy only mumbled, “I'm sorry.” What a letdown.

I slept in long pants and a hoodie for the first time in my life because I didn't trust the bed to be sanitary. There were no pillowcases, and used plastic utensils were left on the chairs. Bring shower shoes if you stay, for walking around the room and in the shower. Honestly, if zero stars were an option, I'd give that, and that's generous. Whoever responds to these reviews should look at what's happening inside the hotel. There are plenty of feel good replies, but no sign of action.

The staff were really friendly, let our group check in early, and gave us space to hang out in the common areas in the evening. We had more than eight families with us, and that was helpful. But the room itself was just okay, with chipped paint, damaged door frames, a toilet handle you had to hold down forever, and a fridge that didn't work. We overlooked it for one night. Then we couldn't get the TV working. After an hour we called the desk, and they said they didn't know how to fix it. Their solution was to move us to another room at 11:30 at night, which I wasn't going to do with four people's things. We lay there in the dark and tried to sleep. If you only need somewhere to stay and can live with poor cleanliness and partly broken amenities, it's okay. Don't expect luxury.
