Hotel Finial, Bw Premier Collection

The mansion’s shared spaces were a highlight for me. There’s a lovely glassed-in dining room downstairs, plus a little reading spot on the second-floor landing by a stained glass window. We stayed in the McKleroy Suite in the main house, named for the mansion’s original owner. It was a bit smaller than I’d pictured, but comfortable for two. The tub and tile backsplash were fine, though there’s no walk-in shower, and the fireplace seemed decorative rather than usable. Getting there was easy on foot from the Anniston, AL Station. We took Amtrak and walked about 30 minutes through the quaint, historic downtown, with sidewalks the whole way. At the front gate, press the call button to enter; check-in is in the lower carriagehouse. Breakfast was fantastic, even though we didn’t see the famous grits people mention online. WiFi and the TV worked well, with apps including Tubi and Netflix. There’s a grocery store right across the street and several restaurants within an easy walk. We did hear some road noise, and firetrucks from a nearby station go out often, so light sleepers might want earplugs.

The room was the standout for me, with more space, privacy, and quality than I expected. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were helpful and friendly throughout. Hotel Finial has a lot of old character, so take some time to look around the rest of the property. It’s a charming, elegant place close to downtown Anniston, set in a scenic mountain town. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The rate seemed fair, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Having a coffee maker, microwave, and fridge in the room was useful, too. The staff were attentive and friendly. Getting into the hotel was confusing. It’s a Best Western, though you wouldn’t know from outside; once inside the room, little details made it feel cheap. The gated parking was reassuring in one way, but the surrounding area didn’t feel especially inviting to explore. Across the street, some kind of community center played loud horn and drum music late Friday night.

Really enjoyed my stay. The rooms were nice and the service was great. If I’m in town again, I’d stay here plenty more times.
