Crosby's Motor Inn

I stopped by to see a friend who was paying the weekly rate. The room was small and dated, with questionable linens and a smoky smell in the carpet. I didn't see any bugs during my short visit, though it seemed like the kind of place where you might expect a few, if you know what I mean. There are no elevators, just outdoor staircases and entrances to the rooms, with the lobby at the front of the two-story building. Groups of guys were outside different rooms drinking and yelling things I couldn't make out as I walked past, and didn't want to. I made a note to myself not to come back. Up to you, though.

The rooms were very clean, but at $140 a night, the rest was frustrating. My car got dirty from debris coming off the roof while it was being remodeled. There was no internet, even after I called for help on the first night, and the cable was so spotty I couldn't follow a show. The pool was closed for painting, I was told. There wasn't coffee in the room or at the office. Two days after checkout, I was still waiting for my $50 deposit. When I called, they said returns take 5 to 7 business days. I'm sorry, that's ridiculous.

I had a nice stay, with very little noise from the parking lot, and it was close to downtown Mt Dora. The room felt fresh and clean, with a good-sized TV, mini fridge, and microwave. The satellite dish internet and mostly local channels were available. The bathroom and shower were clean and had been recently renovated.

I've been here three weeks with my very large dog, and the staff have all been awesome, friendly, and helpful. It's not fancy, but it's cozy and safe, with everything you need. Guests are respectful and look out for each other; the kids have a great time, and there's nice space for pets. There's a grill and a pool, too. The restaurant is under construction, which should make things even better.
