The Duck Inn

The mornings were a treat: sunlight, birds, and other little outdoor sounds woke us gently, and from our comfortable bed we had a beautiful view of the ocean. We were close to a beach and could enjoy the surrounding nature. Duck Inn was also near other inns, so catching a shuttle was easy. Elise made us feel very welcome, and her home-cooked breakfast was delicious. We had an amazing stay.

I’d bring a car if you’re visiting Western MV. Without one, you’re dependent on an hourly bus and then a 20-minute walk to reach it. The farmhouse itself is a charming place to stay, with cozy rooms, lots of natural light, and the distant sounds of the ocean, birds, and woodland animals. Elise has thoughtfully restored and expanded the historic house, and its little nooks are full of handmade touches. Breakfast was impeccable, delicious, and as locally sourced as possible, sometimes with produce from Elise’s garden. It felt like stepping into the ’70s in the loveliest way.

Elise makes you feel right at home, and the inn is such a relaxing place. The rooms are beautiful, and the beaches are close by. There’s so much to do around here. I’ll be coming back to The Duck Inn every year!

The house kept us entertained as much as anything we did during the week. We rented it for a week with our family group of 6 adults and 5 kids, and it suited us well. It was warm, cozy, comfortable to live in, and had what we needed: good beds, plenty of towels, a hot tub and sauna, books, music, and fresh vegetables from the garden. Now that we’re home, we miss the sink’s foot pedals, the quirky collection of dishes and cookware, the antique stove, the porches, and all the little corners with activities. Elise’s massages were outstanding.
