Desoto Motel

We return every single time we visit Peace River. It’s an inexpensive, friendly, safe place, and the owners are really pleasant. The rooms are clean, though nothing fancy. The air conditioning was colder than cold, and the shower’s hot water was hotter than hot. We love it here and love the owners!

We travel by bicycle, so having a good bed matters to us, and the bed here was good. For a bargain room, we expected little, but ours turned out spacious, clean, comfortable, and well furnished. We’ve paid as much as three times more at other Florida motels for a room like this.

I called to reserve a room, but the reservationist could barely speak English, and there was “screaming” in the background. They said a manager would call back with a confirmation number, but no one did. I tried again, reached an answering machine, and left a callback message. Still nothing. It’s a very poor operation, so don’t waste your time. I’d suggested Knights Inn in Arcadia instead, but actually don’t use Knights Inn either. We stayed there and it was horrible, a total dump!

The room was trashy and moldy, and the bed wasn’t even a queen. I was so exhausted I didn’t ask for my money back, but I’ve never stayed somewhere this substandard. I wouldn’t even shower because I thought I’d catch something. Disgusting! If zero stars were possible, that’s what I’d give.
