Comfort Inn Arcola

The room was fine, but the service was awful. We overslept and woke up at 11 AM. Within a couple of minutes, they called. We asked for a late checkout and were told the hotel didn't do that and we had to leave immediately. We rushed out in about five minutes, stumbling around, when another 30 minutes might have given us time to get it together. Sleeping in was our fault, of course, but in 52 years I've never heard of anyone refusing a late checkout. They should treat people a little more decently.

My daughter found two bugs in her orange juice when she was nearly finished with it. We told the manager, but he just shrugged. By the time we left, he hadn't checked the juice, apologized, or done anything to acknowledge what happened. We had stopped at the hotel after pulling off the interstate for gas during a snowstorm, choosing to stay rather than risk driving in it. The room was average to below average, the floor by the window was wet, and the sheets had stains. I'm okay with stains as long as the sheets are clean.

The hotel's location was good, but the experience was bad enough that I won't recommend this place or the chain. The pool was one reason I chose it, yet it wasn't open, and they said it hadn't been open since 2020 even though it's still advertised. Booking by phone felt scammy: three times they said the room I'd asked for had just been booked, then steered me toward something more expensive. That raised my price by $200. I eventually booked the original room online without a problem and called to confirm. Cleanliness was poor too. I killed a large spider just after entering, the floor had little bits of debris and part of a fake nail, and the refrigerator didn't work, though they replaced it. Security was lacking. The exterior door at the end of the building stayed unlocked around the clock. On our last morning, people were sleeping in a vehicle outside our window with the engine running, and exhaust smell reached the room. Someone urinating by the car door after sleeping there all night didn't make me feel considered or safe. That should have shown up on camera. Were there no cameras, or was nobody monitoring them? I never saw anyone at the front desk during my many trips through the lobby. The lack of security and cleanliness, along with continuing to advertise a pool that hasn't been in service for five years, means I won't stay here again.

We had a King bed room for two nights. The girl at the front desk was very nice, and there were security cameras inside and outside. The room was pretty clean and quiet, with a very comfy bed, warm blankets, a working fridge/freezer, excellent water pressure, good AC, and plenty of chairs. The bathroom was small and could have been a bit cleaner, though it wasn't bad. The side entrance near our room didn't lock, so anyone could have walked into the hotel. I'm not personally worried, but others might be. For a 2-star hotel, it was surprisingly nice, and I'd definitely stay again if I'm in the area.
