Hotel Pentagon

I spend more nights in hotels than in my own home because of work, and I’m a highly ranked Bonvoy and Honors member. This place still stood out to me as a nice hotel. The location is good, and the rooms are roomy, clean, and nicely decorated. I especially like its distinctive old DC feel. I slept really well in the comfortable bed with good pillows. The shower pressure was good and hot water came quickly. There’s a nice pedestal sink and big mirror, plus a larger-than-average fridge, a table, and two chairs. The stay felt memorable, more like a pleasure trip than the usual work grind. I hope you enjoy your own time here and find some adventure too.

The breakfast had decent food, and the man at the desk was nice. That’s about all I can praise. The place was run-down and filthy, and the photos are very misleading. I wiped up a spill and the rag came away black. There was blood on our room’s baseboard, towels were stained, and we saw several big roaches along with a few small ones. There were roach traps in both the room and breakfast area. The shower lost its hot water very quickly, and the pool clearly hadn’t been used for years. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it.

The front desk receptionist made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. We were polite and only trying to check in, but she spoke sharply and disrespectfully, as if helping us were a burden. Her hostility felt completely unprovoked, and the interaction spoiled the start of our trip. More than a year later, I still remember how awful it felt. The motel was already in terrible shape: thin walls, noise all the time, uncomfortable beds, and even bedbugs. When we asked questions or wanted help, she twisted what was happening and called her supervisor as if we were the problem. It felt like she was using her position to make things difficult. My family and I were so unsettled that we left and booked somewhere else immediately. This was one of our worst hotel experiences. I’d strongly tell people to stay away. Nobody should be treated that way.

We didn’t end up staying. The desk clerk argued with me when I said the advertising was false, then rudely told us, “You don’t have to stay here!” The lobby was small and dank, and the place was a motel, like a renovated Motel 6, not the “Hotel” it claimed to be. It advertised room service, but there wasn’t any. They also wanted a $200 deposit on top of the ridiculous $179 Thursday night room price. Some of the other reviews make it sound like we dodged a bullet. This isn’t even a two-star motel. Go somewhere else and don’t waste your money.
