Lux Hotel and Spa

The location near the Stadium for the Cotton Bowl and the hotel bar were the main positives. We chose it at the last minute because it was close by and part of Wyndham, which I thought had been buying and updating properties. Customer service was kind, let us check in early, and gave us a credit after so much in the room stopped working. We stayed two nights, from the 30th to New Year's Day. The place was nearly empty, and the room was old and musty, with a moldy smell. The heater only blew cool air during a cold New Year's stay. The fridge was dirty and either not cold enough or froze all my food once I turned it up. The shower was dirty, its ceiling paint peeling, and the handle nearly coming off. The beds were hard; one pillow was so worn that it ripped when I put my elbow on it. It had once been covered in plastic, but that was old too. The bar opened for New Year's with a $15 cover, and drinks weren’t included. For us, the cheap rate and stadium location are the only reasons to stay. Don’t expect more.

We were moved to a second room on the second floor after finding the first one flooded. Water covered the fourth-floor room and even reached the hallway. The staff were the one bright spot: they let us check in early and moved us. But the replacement room smelled strongly musty, the floor was crusty, and the shower still had hair and soap left by the previous guest. The sliding mirror beside the door was cracked too. That evening a storm brought water through the ceiling and the lights in the bathroom and vanity area. We put a trash can under one leak and a towel in the bathroom. I have videos of it. My girlfriend couldn’t use the lobby restroom because it was disgusting. I booked through Expedia because it was close to AT&T stadium, but this should not be called a 3-star hotel. At checkout I asked for the manager and requested a full refund; the man wrote down my number. I still want the refund and expect management to contact me. The staff and proximity to the Cowboys/Eagles game were the only good parts. This place needs major upgrades before someone gets sick or poisoned by mold. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room television kept losing reception, and the ice machine area had dirty floors. There was no visitor information in the room, and we didn’t try the spa amenities because the place felt more like a motel. There’s potential here if money goes into upkeep. The rugs in the halls and rooms need deep cleaning to get rid of the strong odors, or replacing. Some sheets had spots, so linens need checking and safe bleaching. The refrigerator needed cleaning around the outside and base, and the bathroom had leftover touch-up paint. That one upholstered chair could use Scotchgard, and housekeeping needs do-not-disturb signs so they know when not to knock. The lobby felt empty, with no music and only a small 48-inch TV showing local sports. It could use a more welcoming place to sit, a few screens, cucumber and lemon water, and some character. The tubs are also so high that getting in feels dangerous for many people. It’s cost effective, but it seems new management is cutting corners instead of maintaining the former luxury.

Michelle at the front desk made us feel at home. She was really friendly and explained the costs and everything clearly. We’d stay again.
