Best Western Pecos Inn

The staff were kind and courteous at check-in and check-out, but the condition of the place got so bad that we left two nights early and found another hotel. Read the reviews. This is the grossest Best Western I've been to. Things are falling apart, with a hole in the wall, what looked like water damage everywhere, and a big tear in the carpet. You can hear everything, and the upstairs neighbor's fan sounded like drilling through the wall. The back door was broken, so anyone could come in, which made me feel unsafe despite the key card entrances. Finding ants in the restroom was the last straw.

Our first room was warm, probably because renovations were going on around the hotel. The night receptionist was really helpful and switched us to an open room that felt fresh and had a working AC unit. Nice place, nice people.

The towels and bedding felt luxurious, everything was clean, and the staff were amazing. Then there was a full cooked breakfast to die for. I've never left a review before, but this place beats some four and five star hotels I've stayed in. I'll come back if I'm ever passing through.

Breakfast was a disappointment, and I left feeling I'd wasted $100. The menu looked good, but the food was mediocre at best. The sausage patties in “The Carnivore” were tiny, about the size of silver dollars, and burned. The eggs had so much black pepper they weren't edible. The bacon was mostly chewy fat, while the ham was very thin but otherwise okay. I didn't eat Ming the breakfast. My son said his burrito was very dry, my daughter liked her Sunrise 1, and my wife thought her pancakes were good but also found too much pepper in her eggs. We ended up extending our trip and going to another hotel with a working pool to make up for how disappointed the kids were. We only booked this place for the pool, but it was closed for “unscheduled environmental maintenance.” It had reportedly been closed for at least 10 months, was completely drained, and there were no signs of work. When we complained, the front desk person didn't seem to care or offer anything. We asked how to get to room 212 and were told to take the stairs, with a map pointed out to us. The stair signs didn't lead to our room, so we walked around about 90% of the hotel before finding it. The room was spacious, but very dated. The bed was moderately comfortable. The built-in AC unit had broken vanes and no thermostat; its hot-cold dial blew strongly all night but never made the room comfortable. The bathroom and bedroom had old popcorn ceilings, with chunks of texture missing, and grout missing in the bathroom. I won't stay again and wouldn't recommend it.
