Studio 6 Artesia, CA

I’ve stayed at Studio 6 for a long time, but after this I’m not sure I’ll return. I called and booked a room with a kitchen, then confirmed that with the front desk when I checked in. The stovetop burners didn’t work. When I went back to ask about it, a different woman was at the desk. She got defensive and argumentative, then told me to leave while I was asking for the kitchen I’d been promised. She wasn’t helpful, and since I was asking about a refund that same day, I doubt I’ll get my money back. A horrible experience.

The room’s phone didn’t work, and the bathtub drain was clogged. I called the front desk from my cell at 8:30 AM before heading to work, so they could send someone up. The receptionist said the handyman would start at 9:30 and be sent right over. I got back at 10:30 PM, and nobody had come. I ended up pulling a lot of dirty hair and scum out of the drain with a rubber glove and two Q-tips, then used my hand like a plunger to get it draining well enough for a quick shower in the morning. The room and hallway were dirty, with bags of trash and wastebaskets left in plain view by the elevator. I was staying in the Studio 6 section, which costs more than the Motel 6 rooms, and the room was still filthy. I’ve stayed at other Studio 6 locations that were the complete opposite. Read all the reviews before paying, and stay away from this Artesia, CA Studio/Motel 6. Management doesn’t seem proud of the place. It’s sad that this dump compares so poorly with the other Studio 6 locations I’ve enjoyed.

The staff were nice, but the rooms were dirty and I never got the suite I’d booked. I reserved a King Size Suite on the website, but was first given a queen room. The front desk initially said there were no king rooms available, then checked and moved me to a king room that still wasn’t the suite. He said the suite wasn’t available. I’d traveled so far and paid more than the $89 regular room rate specifically for that suite, so it put a real dent in my stay. Both rooms were extremely dirty. The floors looked like they hadn’t been swept or mopped in weeks. In the second room, there was a huge black mold stain on the ceiling, dirt and soap scum in the shower, and toothpaste on the mirror. This was the worst of all the locations I’ve stayed at, and I won’t stay here again.

We were in the area because of a fire near where we live up north, near the Eaton fire. When our pet snake went missing, we calmly asked whether they could check if it had been found during cleaning. Instead, the staff were very rude and threatened to call the cops on my husband. The management was terrible. The room was awful too. I know it’s a motel, but we spent $88 and the sheets and mattress were full of cigarette holes. This place deserves one star. Find somewhere else to stay.
