Tru by Hilton Ashburn One Loudoun

The first room smelled like animal urine. I checked in at 8:30 pm with my 3 year old dog, then asked for another room at 11:00pm. The owner refused at first, saying he had no housekeepers, and even asked whether my dog smelled. She doesn't, and she has never had an accident indoors. I asked for a refund, and only then did he move me to room 107. That room smelled strongly of marijuana. He acted as if I'd caused him trouble. The door in the second room stuck shut in the morning, and I couldn't get out. A woman came to help but couldn't open it either, so the owner had to come down and push it open. I'd never stay there again or recommend it. I might avoid Super 8's altogether. There are other motels nearby, so avoid this one.

We had everything we needed during our stay, even though some people might call it a basic hotel. The beds were really comfortable, and the staff were very nice and accommodating. We also liked that the rooms don't have carpet, which is great for people with allergies. The lobby was a nice gathering spot, with a pool table. We had a great stay and would definitely come back.

I emailed both managers first to give the hotel a chance to resolve things privately. The reply said we had “checked in at noon” and suggested the problem had been fully resolved when we reported it. That wasn't accurate: we didn't occupy the room at noon, and we still couldn't rest because of the noise. No one followed up after the front desk said both managers would contact us about possible compensation. At checkout, we had explained that the noise started again around 6:00AM and lasted for several house. The front desk help said there was nothing she could do. The night before, in room 307, we could clearly hear the guests above walking, talking, and repeatedly opening and closing doors through the very poor sound insulation. We contacted the front desk close to midnight. They said they'd investigate, but the disturbance barely improved, and we couldn't sleep. We'd used digital check-in earlier in the day, arrived at approximately 4:00 PM, then went out for dinner and returned later that evening. We were at this Hilton property over Valentine’s Day for a local getaway, just to get out of the house, and it turned into one of our worst Hilton stays. The uncomfortable beds and excessive noise were bad enough; the lack of accountability and inaccurate account of our stay were even more disappointing. We stay at many Hilton properties and are frequent Hilton guests, and this fell well below the service we expect. We wouldn't return and would highly recommend staying elsewhere.

Room 418 was cozy and comfortable. Miguel welcomed us at the front desk, recommended some food spots in the area, and showed us where the coffee was. It's a very nice building, and we'll definitely stay here again.
