Quality Inn Ashland - Lake Superior

The bed was clean, but the stay still wasn’t good. There was hair in the hot tub, dirt and dust covering the painted murals, a heater in the room that was falling apart, a screaming bathroom fan, and a broken elliptical. They care about the view and slack on the hotel experience. Nobody wants a nasty stay beside a beautiful lake.

We came a couple of times to get some “privacy” with my partner because this was the cheapest option when we needed it. The rooms were mostly clean. I only found a local spider and a bit of mold in the pool access room. The layout is confusing, though. One room had a main door and a balcony door. We headed for the pool across the courtyard and thought the balcony had a stairwell that would be quicker. It didn’t, and when we tried to go back in, the keycard wouldn’t work. Luckily we had our phones and called the front desk to come rescue us. They were understanding since the room needed new locks. It’s a funny story now. Rooms near the pool smell like chlorine, and they’re loud and very humid, with a little mold. Breakfast service was good, and all the staff were friendly. Whether you need a place for one night or you’re on vacation, I think it’s worth it, though you might need a map.

The location on Lake Superior is beautiful, and we got a steal for the price. Our room was spotlessly clean. Every employee we met was personable and helpful, and breakfast was basic but had plenty of choices.

The breakfast was a real treat, with plenty to choose from, and the view was beautiful. We stayed three days and were already wishing we could extend the trip. The staff were welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and even the other guests I met were really nice. I’d stay here again if I’m back in the area.
