I've lived here for 15 years and still love the downtown scenery. It's peaceful and charming, with mountain views and lots to see within a short walk, from the Wheeler Opera House and the pedestrian malls on Hyman and Cooper Avenue to Wagner Park, the Gondola, Paradise Bakery, parks, galleries, local restaurants, and fancy shops. Aspen is a high-end resort, so downtown shopping is expensive. Don't come expecting bargains at places like Prada and Gucci. The scenery and outdoor activities are the draw, and you can make your own adventure without spending a fortune. For something different at a more manageable price, try Emporium Flying Circus shop, which sells work made by local artists. Parking can be a pain, and it's crowded in high season. You can leave your car in the Rio Grande Garage and walk around; downtown is small and easy to get around on foot. Or use the city's free Downtowner rides within the town's core. Download their app.
It's a cute, pleasant town, but parking is tough and so many shops are ridiculously expensive. That takes some of the fun out of visiting.
Downtown is lovely for a walk.
Lovely town, though it's packed with people and the shops are very high-end.
A really nice place to wander around. We rented the free bikes for half an hour and explored on them.
