The river location was a nice place to come back to, and having a beer on the balcony while watching the boats was pleasant. The walk into town was long, and there could be a fish smell now and then. Cruise ships testing fire alarms sometimes woke us around 7:00 a.m., but it was cheap and the people were friendly, so we put up with those things. We'd stayed there for years, but our last attempt was disappointing. They messed up the reservation, then lied about trying to fix it, and we had to pay much more to stay elsewhere in town. It felt like a quick turn against loyal customers. I can't see myself returning after that bait-and-switch.

We come back whenever we're in Astoria. The marina view, big ships on the river, and a nice deck are hard to beat. Staff are great, and they'll try to put you on the floor you request if they can. Call early since rooms book up. Breakfast is included, coffee is available around the clock, prices are reasonable, and dogs are welcome.

The harbor view from the room was stunning, and the room itself was large. There was a very polite, engaging employee at checkout. The breakfast and its area were adequate, but the rest of the property felt past its best. The exterior was run down, the curtains looked sloppy and oversized, the bed wasn't level, and the bathroom was marginal. The large balcony was in poor shape, with rusty furniture. Cable TV was advertised, but there wasn't any. The adjacent room looked as if it had crime tape on it, and the floor was so thin that the person upstairs sounded like they were doing calisthenics at 7 a.m. It may have been a nice place in its heyday, but not now.

For our first visit to Astoria, the room and view were a pleasant surprise. Every room has a view, and ours was spectacular. The rain came with mild weather, so we could leave the balcony door open, listen to the storm, and enjoy it. The room felt like what you'd expect on the docks, a little old and worn, and the beds weren't especially comfortable. Still, the price, convenience, and view felt right, and we felt safe. The employees were friendly and professional. Breakfast was included, and the coffee was better than most hotel coffee. We'd stay again, especially for a night while traveling through.

Breakfast was a lovely surprise, with a clean, well-stocked room and big windows looking out at a beautiful view. There was plenty to choose from: cold cereals, oatmeal with lots of toppings, biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bear claws, bagels with two kinds of cream cheese, waffles with sugar-free syrup, bread with butter, jam and honey, and yogurt. The coffee and juice station by check-in was always open, with regular and decaf coffee, creamers, hot chocolate, apple cider, and several good teas. Our room was comfortable and very clean, with a good bed, lots of pillows, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, plenty of TV options, strong internet, and in-room coffee. We could barely tell the rooms on either side were occupied because it was so quiet. Every staff member we met, ten or more over three days and two nights, was friendly and respectful. The cleaning team always smiled and said something nice. They were understaffed during our visit, so guests needed to ask if they wanted housekeeping. We chose to wait until checkout and only requested more coffee. The room was ready on time and was just what we'd reserved. All the rooms have river views, and the bridge adds interest. We enjoyed the place with no complaints and would stay again, as well as recommend it to friends and family. Our photos were taken from the room, one of the sunset from the balcony and the other from our dining table inside.
