The Columbia riverside location is nice, and the service is fine. The rooms are adequate, but the Wi-Fi is unbelievably slow. I measured 0.31 mbps download and 2 mbps upload, which makes using a phone or laptop difficult. I’ve stayed at this Hampton two or three times, and it’s been the same every visit. For a hotel charging hundreds of dollars, that speed is unacceptable.

I emailed twice about this and got no reply, so I’m posting here. I stayed two nights with my friend under the name Ferguson (David), checking out on November 1. I think we were in room 318. At breakfast on both days, Roy, who works in the kitchen area, was extremely rude. He’s a short man with glasses. On the second morning, I asked whether the chef could confirm if the ham in the egg omelette was gluten free. Roy said, “I told you yesterday dude, nothing in the kitchen is gluten free.” I pointed out that the eggs, yogurt, and peanut butter were gluten free, so customers were being given misinformation. He turned away and made a hand gesture telling me to stop talking. I told him that was rude. I’ve worked with the public for years and have never been treated this way. I was completely taken aback. It made me wonder if he’d ever dealt with the public before.

The hotel and rooms in Astoria, Oregon were very clean. The toilet paper holders, though, are cheap steel and rattle loudly whenever you use them. I’m sure the neighbors could hear it, especially at night. With rooms this nice, why use such noisy holders? Someone at the hotel should sit in the bathroom and pull off some toilet paper to hear just how loud they are.

There’s mold on the shower fixture. The stairwell exterior door recognizes the key but doesn’t release the latch. There’s also an Ethernet cable attached to the top of the desk. Staff said it could be activated for $10, but they didn’t know how to turn it on.

The rooms were spotless and well appointed, and the views are fantastic. But service was pretty poor. This morning, 17 September 2025, the women at the front desk stayed on their phones instead of looking up to greet us at checkout or even making eye contact while checking us out. The coffee wasn’t good either. Some customer service training could bring the experience up to the level of the location and view.
