Home2 Suites by Hilton Atascadero, CA

The cozy, welcoming lobby feels unique for a Home2, and the property is newer with friendly, helpful employees. It’s just off US 101, with grocery stores, a 7-Eleven, and a few chain restaurants nearby. Paso Robles is a 15 minutes drive away. There’s no parking fee, lots of spaces near the front entrance, plenty of full sized luggage carts, and two elevators. My room was spacious, well lit, and quiet. A few things could be better: the shower head has low flow, there isn’t as much wall mounted storage as at other Home2’s, and the refrigerator isn’t full sized. I would absolutely stay at this Home2 again.

We chose this Home2 Suites based on good reviews while passing through, and it surpassed what we expected. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and after a rough night at a Marriott property before this, my back felt much better after one night here. The room was clean and spacious, and breakfast was well stocked with things replenished quickly. We’d definitely stay here again if we pass through Atascadero.

The manager, Kevin, went beyond what we expected to resolve a couple of issues, and every staff member we spoke with was polite and quick to respond. The lobby is very nice. Our large, clean room had a decent sized fridge, microwave, coffee machine, dishes, utensils, and even a dishwasher. There’s also a pool.

Breakfast had decent options, but staffing and supplies couldn’t keep up with demand. There was probably enough food overall, but croissants and sausage patties, the popular items, were gone by around 8:30 both mornings. That’s poor planning and not impressive. The staff looked visibly stressed, which isn’t their fault. Management should plan for Thanksgiving weekend, buy extra, and pay and train enough people to restock smoothly. Leftovers could go to the local food pantry. People working Thanksgiving and other major holidays deserve every blessing and praise, and money too. Don’t forget the money. The room was large and clean, with decent amenities and reasonably good beds. The pillows weren’t the best: one large and two small per main bed, and the smaller ones had foam chunks inside. They’re okay at best when new, and these weren’t new. There was no bathtub, which is common in hotels now. Shower pressure was weak but usable. Noise from neighboring rooms, especially overhead, was noticeable, so this may not suit very noise sensitive guests. It wasn’t a deal breaker for us, but I’m not sure we’ll rush back.
