The staff at the desk were friendly and accommodating, and check-in went smoothly. They even asked me to wait while they checked that the room was ready, which seemed considerate. But after I got settled for the night, I spotted a dead bug near the pillows, something they should have caught during that check. I reported it and was moved to another room. They refunded me $34 for the trouble. The breakfast was described as freshly made each morning, but it was just an ordinary continental spread, without pastries or granola bars to take along. The gym wasn’t much, just three machines and a TV, though it’s better than nothing for a quick workout. The decor has a shabby chic retro look, with accents that reminded me of “Lola” in the bar at the Copacabanna. Some things feel past their time and need updating. It’s okay in a pinch, but at the booking.com price I didn’t think it was worth it.

The place was inviting, clean, and well kept, which helped make the stay relaxing. Everyone on the staff was welcoming and attentive, and it was clear they cared about guests having a comfortable visit. I had a wonderful stay and really appreciated their service.

At breakfast I arrived late while Matthew Starcher was cleaning up the dining area, but he still made sure I left with a full plate of warm food, coffee, extra bottles of water, and a big smile. The whole staff at the Athens Central Hotel was lovely and ready to go out of their way to help. Thanks to Matthew and the hotel for such a great experience.

Matthew was so welcoming at breakfast and made sure we had what we needed. He really brought some joy to the morning. Our room was clean and roomy, and the shower had lots of settings, which was fun. The TV was huge, too.

We were in town for an OU game, and this is an easy place to call home on future Athens trips. Uptown shops and restaurants, plus the stadium, are all walkable. The staff were wonderful and accommodating, and the hotel was clean and well kept. Breakfast was fresh, delicious, made from scratch by a staff member, and had plenty of choices. The mini fridge in our room came stocked with water and soft drinks included in the room. The shower was as nice as ones I’ve seen at expensive hotels in other states. My wife and I had no complaints and really appreciated the hospitality.
