Rivet House

The room was bright, clean, and laid out in a way that made it easy to relax. Rivet House also has a welcoming feel, with friendly staff who made check-in and checkout comfortable and unhurried. Having the restaurant, bar, and spa on site made it easy to spend an evening there without arranging transportation or looking for somewhere else to go. The building’s past as a denim mill comes through in the exposed brick and wood beams. They’ve mixed the old features with a polished, modern design, and it feels warm rather than stiff. It’s a calm place, with an understated kind of elegance instead of flashy resort luxury. If you just need an anonymous bed for the night, it may be more than you’re looking for. For a comfortable change of scenery where the atmosphere matters, it worked really well for me. I’d stay again.

The valet attendant knew a lot about the grounds and building, and filled us in on their history. Rivet House is a beautiful, quaint historic property, and once we saw it, our first impression of the industrial surroundings didn’t matter anymore. My wife and I came to Athens for a concert. We’d picked it partly because it wasn’t part of a chain, but when we first arrived, the warehouses and freight yards nearby made us wonder if we’d booked a no-tell motel. The rooms turned out to be comfortable and well appointed, with first-rate amenities. Those I-beams throughout the building are part of its story, too. Think about the people who worked there back when it had no windows. Enjoy your stay.

The building has a cool look and the people were nice. The restaurant was fantastic, and the bar had great food and drinks. But the rooms are very small, and the railroad right next to the hotel sends trains past several times a night. The provided noise maker couldn’t cover that up. Room technology was lacking, too. There were no streaming options, just satellite TV that lagged and glitched the whole time. You’re paying a lot for the style and feel, not for much in the way of amenities. For this price, I expected more than what felt like Aloft-level amenities, though the place does look great.

Cara made the room feel personal for my heart surgery celebration and birthday, with decorations and welcome gifts chosen for me. Olio’s staff prepared a custom menu, gave me a card signed by the whole team, and brought dessert. They made it hard to imagine a better stay, and I’ll be back for future occasions. I’m even sending my mom here for her birthday this week. The room, restaurant, and attention to detail were all next to none. This was honestly one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had, with the best food and ambiance in Athens.
