The location is great, but the hotel is frustrating. It’s old with a modern, beautiful lobby; once you get to the floors, the mood changes. The dark hallways smell moldy, and the rooms feel much the same. I saw baby roaches in my room, which suggests an infestation, and got no response after reporting it. Some staff were rude, though others were doing their best with what they have. Under these circumstances, I’d be rude too. The showers were only lukewarm, with no hot water. IHG should fully remodel the place, overhaul it, and exterminate, or better yet turn it into apartments for people experiencing homelessness in winter. That would be the better idea.
The view was nice, but I wouldn’t recommend this room. We stayed with family and a friend, choosing it for the good rate and proximity to the Georgia Aquarium. The shower was stained and had barely enough pressure to rinse off soap. The sheets didn’t seem clean. For 4 people, we got only two bath towels and one washcloth. The first time we asked for more, the front desk took our room number, but nothing came. We asked three more times and were ignored each time. The next morning, we asked again and were told housekeeping doesn’t come in until 9. While we were out, housekeeping came in and took our towels, leaving ONE for all four of us. We called the front desk again, were put on hold, then told they’d “send some right up.” The pull-out couch we were counting on for two people didn’t seem to have its original mattress. The twin-size spring mattress shoved inside was warped and unusable. There were no extra linens, though I doubt we could have wrestled a fitted sheet onto that mattress anyway. Luckily, the two who slept on the couch are young and don’t have back issues.
I stayed here while having a procedure at Emory. The rooms are pretty dated, and in the first one none of the lights worked. It also had no silverware or bowls, though the description says they’re provided. The front desk moved us to another room, where everything worked and was stocked. We left and checked back in, and the 3rd room was as suggested. There’s laundry on site. Parking is across the street and charged per day, and I hadn’t prepared for how much that would add up to.
Valet and the woman who checked us in were the only good parts of the stay. She owned up to the mistake, but the rest was a mess. At check-in, I was told I was already checked in because someone else had been registered under my name. We got an old room with terrible water pressure, one set of towels for three people, and hot water for only one person's shower. I called twice for help and nobody answered, so I had to go to the desk for more towels. Breakfast was just as frustrating. The card said it covered three people, but when my daughter and I sat down with our food, the staff member who came over asked only for our ticket, without a greeting. He wouldn't let me take a plate to my 77-year-old mother, who has trouble walking, and said breakfast was open until 9:30. We couldn't get drinks ourselves, and he never came back to offer any. At checkout, they took the key and wished us a nice day without asking how things went. I opened two cases with IHG, and they told me to contact the hotel. We tried, but nobody picks up. I would never stay here again.
Bed bugs turned what might have been an expensive but tolerable stay into a disaster. The engineer first called them roaches, then admitted they were bed bugs. After he left, I actually saw the roaches too, and they were about the size of a silver dollar. Another guest checked out early for the same reason. There were other costs and annoyances: early check-in, even by an hour, was $35, valet was $50, and breakfast was $17 per person. The hot breakfast was cold because the dining room was cold. Valet may be normal for Midtown, but all of it together was a lot. I almost never write reviews, but people should know. Run away and pay more for comfort. God bless.
