A Place at the Beach III

I can only speak for unit 159, since each condo is individually owned. It needed a major refresh. Both bedrooms had ceiling fan blades bowed from moisture, the carpet was badly stained, and the place smelled damp and moldy. The bed was rock hard, and one shower drained so slowly that I stood in pooled water. We stayed just two nights and didn't bother complaining because we figured it wouldn't change anything. There was caution tape and work happening around the property, which I wish we'd known about before booking. I only learned the outdoor pool was closed after our reservation was confirmed, and not that work was going on throughout the place. We didn't use the amenities, so I can't comment on mini golf or the others. The condo itself and the property overall left me unimpressed, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The views were beautiful, there was plenty to do even in cooler weather, and the price was good. Our one-bedroom condo felt a little small, but there was enough space for a nice beachfront getaway, and I have no complaints about the room. The elevator was a big help, too. This was our first trip to APATB, and everyone we met was so helpful in showing us around. We've stayed at most of the condominium properties in Atlantic Beach, but this one may be our new favorite. We love APATB and already have more trips coming up. Can't wait to return!

Mini golf was in excellent shape, and we had fun in the game room and checking out board games. The direct boardwalk to the sand is fantastic. We've never stayed this close to the beach, and we'd come back, though I'd ask for a different room from #124 and hope for no cockroaches. One was in the bathroom on our first night, which was a rough start since I'm terrified of them. There were also cookie crumbs in the pullout bed, dirty tissues by the master bed's headboard, and lots of cracks in the walls. The bigger letdown was the outdoor pool and waterslide being closed during our mid-May stay. We booked this place specifically for them, and only got notice a couple of days before arrival, after the refund deadline. It left us no chance to switch to somewhere with an open pool. The pool should be ready by May, and guests should get an email if amenities won't be available.

The unit itself was clean and had a nice amount of space, and the facilities were fine, if somewhat dated and small. The beach is beautiful, and the walk to Ft Mason along the wildlife loop trail is lovely. We really like the Bogue Banks and Atlantic Beach area, but I'd suggest staying somewhere else. Construction went on every day from 7 a.m. until after 8 p.m., including Sunday. It was very loud and disrupted our stay, and, as I understand it, violated the local ordinance. The association's only offer was to let us cancel the rest of our reservation. The hallways were dirty.
