Hampton Inn Detroit/Auburn Hills South

Breakfast was pretty good, but the service wasn’t. The room itself was clean; the rest of the hotel felt gross. There was a strange smell on the first floor by the business center, and I’m convinced the hallways had never been vacuumed or cleaned. A bathroom sign says rooms are refreshed every other day, but by Day 4 with the same towels and other things, we asked for service and were told we had to request it before 9am. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We came for a funeral, and the hotel ended up accusing us of smoking and charging $250. I got a bank alert after checkout, then called and was first told the evidence was a vape pen left in the room. The next day, the manager said it was a jar. I didn’t have any jar, and nobody in my party smoked in the room. I pointed out they could check the cameras and see us going outside multiple times, but then he accused another person in my party and said the room had been put out of order. I kept asking what the evidence was: apparently, a jar. There was no smoke, ash, cigarette, butt, tobacco, weed, roach, or vape pen. The jar never existed. We won’t choose Hilton hotels again or recommend this location to family or friends. Being hours from home for a funeral and getting accused of something none of us did was disrespectful. When we arrived, we also saw damaged walls in the room. We took photos and showed them to the front desk so we wouldn’t be charged for the damage. They seemed confused and asked if we wanted to switch rooms. We said no, we just wanted them to know. Checkout itself went smoothly, but that $250 charge followed.

There was black mold in two of my four bathrooms, and bugs were coming in through the HVAC unit. A room number sign had also been lying on the ground for a month. I’d written a much more aggressive, upset review at first, but this still isn’t how a Hampton or Hilton should be represented. It’s the worst Hampton I’ve stayed in. I’d recommend it only to someone I don’t like.

What a mess. I was 45 minutes late to an event and missed the prepaid VIP portion because it took so long to get a clean room. First, someone else was checked in under my reservation, even though I’d replied to a text saying I hadn’t arrived. The clerk said he’d checked that person’s ID; I told him he couldn’t have checked mine because I still had it. He said the other guest had the same first name and was the only reservation with that name. I’ve never had this happen at a Hilton brand hotel. The replacement room had an unmade bed, trash that hadn’t been emptied, and a used condom on the floor. The third room was clean. At checkout, they couldn’t find the credit card my daughter had used the day before. The hotel offered nothing for the trouble, or the usual Hilton Honors Silver free snacks and water, which I assume the person checked in as me received. Hilton Honors customer service, to be fair, was excellent as usual. I’m writing this on checkout day, and the manager isn’t at the hotel.
