Senator Inn & Spa

The facial was excellent, and I also really enjoyed the pizza at the restaurant and the whirlpool tub in my room. The rest of the spa experience was much more mixed. I couldn’t book more treatments because they were full, and later found out staffing was minimal. The pedicure was disappointing, especially compared with the quality I’ve had at local salons for much less. I was also disappointed to learn at check-in that the pool and hot tub were closed for maintenance, since those were a big reason I picked this place. In my room, the fireplace would light briefly, then go out and wouldn’t relight. Temperature control was poor, with the room swinging between too hot and too cold, and drafts coming through the windows. Noise from the next room carried right through the thin walls. Children ran in the hall and their voices continued late at night and early in the morning. They checked out on the 5th, but my chance at a peaceful morning had already been spoiled. The entrance and exit doors also weren’t automatic, which made pushing a luggage cart difficult. Front desk staff didn’t help, so I had to rely on another guest’s kindness.

The hot tub was great, and the sauna and steam room were roomy and relaxing. My Mom and I had a girls’ overnight here and liked what the Senator had to offer. The bed was comfy and the staff were pleasant. I’m not sure if the look is Egyptian or Italian, but the locker room and decor are cute and add to the relaxed feel. We want to come back and try Cloud 9 restaurant. For live music, liberal cup in Hallowell is a cozy spot. We’ll be back to the Senator soon xo

The room got far too hot, and I couldn’t get the heat turned down, so sleeping wasn’t comfortable. We’d hoped to eat at the on-site restaurant, but didn’t know they were serving only a three-course Valentine’s meal and nothing else. The website said the pool and hot tub were closed, so we didn’t pack for them. At check-in we found out the hot tub was open, but by then we couldn’t use it. The senator is nice overall.

We ended up staying an extra night because we enjoyed everything so much. The room was clean and quiet, and the price worked for a tight budget. The restaurant and bar were amazing, far better than we expected. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Wonderful stay.
