Hotel Atwater

The staff made our weekend feel special. Chris at the front desk was so kind, got us an early check-in, and left a handwritten note and a bottle of champagne. We booked the upgraded king room, which was much more spacious than the classic room and worth the extra cost. The smallest room is quite small, so I'd suggest booking up if you can. The room was clean and the hotel beautiful. I found a Black Friday deal and booked the trip as a Christmas gift for my partner. Going in the off season meant the island was quiet, a lovely escape from the SoCal chaos and a nice way to explore. I'd happily recommend staying here.

I paid $640 for one night and got a very small room with no view, despite telling the staff it was my birthday. The night was really disappointing. I could barely sleep because of constant banging and loud hallway conversations. Across the hall, the door was open while someone worked on something, with pounding on the walls and doors. Whenever the guests above flushed, it sounded like water was rushing right over my head, extremely loud and disturbing. After my shower I found the hair dryer was broken; the replacement took about half an hour to arrive, by which point my hair had air-dried. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Oliver made the stay feel special from the start. He was thoughtful and sweet, carried my luggage up, and put me in a room with a beautiful water view. The walk-in bathroom was spotless and had everything I needed, and there was a little coffee bar and complimentary mini bottles of wine. The rest of the team were warm too, always smiling and checking whether I needed anything, whether that was activity suggestions or a chat about life on Catalina. I stayed at Hotel Atwater in Avalon, CA from June 24th-26th and felt truly cared for. The place is clean, classy, and comfortable, with service I won't forget. I'd recommend Hotel Atwater a billion percent and can't wait to return.

It was easy to get around from Hotel Atwater, with lots of places within walking distance, and the price felt reasonable for the experience. The renovated hotel had a relaxed, comfortable feel with a touch of luxury. Staff were welcoming, flexible, and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. I'm glad I finally wrote this review. I highly recommend Hotel Atwater for a comfortable, well-kept stay on Catalina Island, it was worth it.
