The reason I don’t give the rooms five stars is the large jacuzzi tubs. They’re inside a glass sliding-door enclosure, and the rail hurts when I climb in and out because I’m short. It may sound minor, but a good bathtub matters to me. I’ll still return as often as I can. My husband and I have stayed at the Village Inn several times. Each room has a fireplace and a very comfortable bed, and the inn is close to sycamore springs, where we like to get massages after the hot springs. We also use the complimentary bikes to ride the BJ Trail through the golf course into downtown Avila Beach. Staying here gives you access to a wonderful health club just steps away, with pickleball, tennis, heated pools, hot tubs, and a full gym. There’s also a TV room with books and games, a smoothie bar, and wine and beer in the evenings.

We still enjoyed the stay, mostly because the setting was serene and away from the busy waterfront. The room was spacious, had a lovely nature view, and was close to the Bob Jones Trail. The complimentary bikes came with helmets and a lock, and it’s a short ride to Avila Beach. The quiet AC worked by remote, both gas fireplaces worked well, and the patio spa was great. The bathroom was very large, with separate areas for the toilet, tub, shower, and sink, each section closable with doors. We’d return, but would choose the Forest King Suite in the wing, since those rooms may not have had as much time for neglect. We stayed in the Grand Escape Room, Room 113 on the first floor, for our anniversary. It wasn’t as advertised: the living room with vaulted ceiling is upstairs, so ask for the second floor if that matters to you. The living room lighting is only on one side; a standing lamp would help. The room felt poorly maintained. A chair had springs coming out underneath and sagged on one side, and the chaise lounge had a large tear. There was what looked like significant water damage on the bathroom door frames, and the shower was so dirty I wore sandals. After removing the living room curtains and putting in blinds, they left holes in the ceiling and strands of curtain fabric hanging down. These could be snipped off, and patching and painting are basic maintenance. Dust had built up inside the bathroom wall sconce. For nearly $400, their nicest room, I’d be embarrassed to offer it to a guest. They call this an upscale inn, which might fit if they took better care of the rooms. There’s no restaurant or breakfast at the hotel. Woodstock Restaurant is a short walk away; we had a very good breakfast there, and they take online orders. Other restaurants are a short drive away.

We live nearby and use this hotel for staycations. It’s a little gem, and we love being able to walk into Avila Beach. The only downside is that gym and pool access aren’t included, you have to buy a day pass at the nearby athletic club. I’d like the hotel to make a deal with them and charge a bit more to include those amenities.

I love Avila Beach, and this is one of my favorite places to stay. When I’m exhausted and need to realign before life picks up, I always run to Avila Beach CA. The customer service is five star, and Avila Village Inn feels sanitized and safe. I’d definitely recommend visiting the Central Coast. My favorite early morning treat is a Lavender Latte with a little brown sugar and fresh rose petal pieces on top. Oops!

It’s peaceful and comfortable here in the Avila Valley, and the Bob Jones trail runs right beside the hotel if you want to walk to Avila Beach or the Avila Valley Barn. Both are also a short drive away. Avila Village Market has lots of food and drink options if you’d rather stay in for breakfast or lunch. The staff are kind and take time to help and explain what’s on the grounds. Rooms have huge, comfortable beds, large bathrooms with double vanities and big showers, and a fireplace. Some have patio spas, a nice way to unwind in the evening. Locals specials make the rooms very affordable. Avila Village Inn is a perfect little gem, and we’ll definitely stay again soon.
