Avon Manor B & B & 3 Bedroom Cottage

We stumbled on this B&B while scrambling to find somewhere safe to sleep after a terrible arrival experience elsewhere. After a three-hour drive to New Jersey, we found our planned hotel, Crystal Inn Neptune, beside a "gentleman's club," with someone out front shouting about rape and robbery. Our bed had no blankets, people were smoking weed below our balcony, and the phone was disconnected, so we couldn’t reach the front desk. At 11:45pm, we didn’t feel safe staying there. We hurriedly asked for a refund and searched for another place, assuming this B&B would turn us away so late. But Greg, who’s become our buddy, answered when we called the number on the door. They had one room left, and he was glad to keep us from sleeping in our car. He woke the woman watching the house, who was lovely despite being roused to help us, and they checked us in quickly and kindly. The house was beautiful and offered so much for a reasonable price, basically a steal. We’ll definitely be back.

The antique decor was charming, and the innkeeper was patient and helpful whenever we needed anything. We had a great time. The beach is really close, and the cute fireplace and pretty big jacuzzi made for a relaxing stay.

I paid 300 for one night in the suite and got no breakfast because of an infection going around. The house was dirty and smelled bad, with piles of garbage and dust under the bed. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. The towels smelled musty, and I had to clean the whirlpool tub before using it. The only shampoo was in several half-used bottles, probably left by someone else. It didn’t look like they’d done any disinfecting since covid. Gross.

Greg, the inn keeper, is friendly and helpful when you need him without being intrusive. The B&B is really cute and nice, with an ideal spot right by the beach and close to incredible restaurants. I can’t recommend it enough.
