Update after a year at Liftview: the location is nice, close to the riverwalk, bear lot, and Nottingham park, and the complex is okay. They did a good job clearing snow in winter. But rent keeps going up without much reason. The exterior paint is peeling, wires are hanging loose, and short-term rentals are allowed. There’s no bike rack, so you have to carry your bike up to your unit or risk getting ominous warnings. Smoking is allowed, and there’s no recourse if a neighbor smokes cigarettes at all hours. With no central AC, I end up breathing it in through open windows when it’s warm. The water bill also seems questionable: it keeps rising even when I’m away for weeks and shower at the local gym. I can’t tell how the meter is measuring use. When I first moved into a rental, I parked in an unassigned spot because sap from the tree in my assigned space was getting all over my car. The owners hadn’t told me I needed to register it. I woke up at 6 a.m. for work to find my car booted. The towing company had been checking plates around 1 a.m., and I wasn’t the only one. It felt unnecessary and made no sense in a small town during the off season.
