Step Back Inn

After a long day of driving, Step Back Inn is a really cool place to stop for the night. The rooms were great, and the staff made me feel at home. Danielle was especially lovely, genuine, and courteous. I’d highly recommend this inn if your travels take you through New Mexico.

The room was clean, and Danielle was amazing, friendly, professional, and sweet. My mom even got her a gift because that kind of kindness isn’t something you usually come across. The other two workers were decent, although one could have been more professional. It was peaceful until other visitors arrived. The walls are thin, so you can clearly hear people in the other rooms, which seemed understandable for an older place. I also liked being able to play around on the piano and clean up after myself and my mother. I wish there had been more information about the place’s hxstory, especially how the peoples interacted with the surrounding Indigenous community.

I’ve stayed here a few times while traveling from the UK, and the lovely staff and owner make it a great little hotel. Breakfast comes with cinnamon buns! It’s excellent value for money, and the brewery is only a five-minute walk away. I’ll be back one day.

The owner has a long family history in Aztec and is happy to talk about local history. There’s local history in the decent rooms too, and the hotel has a shared balcony and wifi. Breakfast is a homemade cinnamon bun, made from scratch without preservatives, with juice and coffee. There are no substitutions.
