Square Rigger Harbor Motel

The lake views and location were wonderful, and the people were friendly and helpful. My girlfriend and I had a great place to stay. It was clear that a woman had a lot of input into the details, like the magnifying mirror, nice towels and linens, real coffee cups, and covered wine glasses.

We had a quiet, relaxing two-night stay, and everything from check-in to check-out was easy. Joe booked our room directly over the phone, and parking right in front plus the electric lock made arrival simple. The room had two beds, a table and chairs, dresser, mini fridge, coffee maker and coffee. There were real glass coffee and wine cups as well as disposable cups. Binoculars were handy for watching birds at the yard feeders. The modern bathroom had shampoo, bar soap, a hair dryer under the sink, a stand-up shower and plenty of towels. The whole backyard leads to the lake, with a pier where you can sit and hear the waves. The room's view was hard to beat, and the owner's wife clearly takes great care of the outside and all her lovely flowers. It's within walking distance of the best BP Gas station, the park, several restaurants, and the marina. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

We had a lovely weekend in Door County with my family at the Square Rigger Motel. It's a small motel with just four rooms, though there was plenty of parking. The surroundings were quiet and picturesque, and the motel sits right by the water with fantastic views. Big room windows let us wake up to the sunrise each morning. We booked within the two-week window, but the third-party site showed a different cancellation policy and didn't flag the policy the owner claims applied. That information isn't available on the affiliate platforms they use, which is a business owner's responsibility, not something consumers should bear. I wonder how often he's profited from this technicality. We were charged for one night after booking three. His claim that he couldn't rent the rooms for two nights doesn't add up. The appeal to your sympathy feels like an excuse for poor business practices and customer service. My experience at the Square Rigger in Baileys Harbor was atrocious. The owner accosted me by phone when I questioned the policies, which were falsely advertised through third-party affiliates. There are plenty of better places around Door County, so stay away. This place represents everything wrong with the US: smug people acting like they're top dog while taking money from working people over technicalities, with low integrity and even lower morals. That's the Square Rigger Harbor Motel in Bailey’s Harbor, a fossil from another time that hasn't kept up. Run.
