I had a non-smoking single and really enjoyed it. During my couple of nights there, the owners would greet me whenever they saw me outside and check whether I needed anything. They were so open and kind, they made me feel like family. That kind of care is hard to find these days, especially in the South. They made my stay a pleasure, and I’ll definitely return next winter.

At $35, it did the job just fine for a place to sleep. It’s a little outside town and can feel a bit creepy after dark, but the woman who runs it is very nice. My room was clean, with a comfortable bed and a good desk area, though it smelled a little musty, maybe because it was a smoking room. I only wish there’d been shampoo. If you’re watching your budget and don’t need anything fancy, the Palmer Motel is a decent choice.

We went there because of Hurricane Irma, and at first they were very nice. When we asked about the price, the husband said 65 and the wife said 75. I woke up covered in bites from some kind of bugs, and my boyfriend and nephew had them too. The bites have since turned into itchy blisters. We left first thing the next morning. If it hadn’t been a last minute situation with no other choice, we never would have stayed there.

The comfortable bed was all I really needed after a tiring trip, so the old tube TV and its remote that only worked with the cable were minor annoyances. The place was clean, and the January price was great. I’ll probably stay there again soon since I have to make the same trip. I took off a star because of the TV and because there wasn’t a restaurant I could walk to.

The worst part was finding the bath towels that housekeeping had hung back up after we’d left them on the floor by the toilet. They looked like the same dirty towels, and there had probably been urine splatter on them overnight while people were drinking. I nearly threw up. The room also smelled so strongly of mold that I ran to Walmart for candles and Glade air freshener to cover it up. It seemed bad enough to kill me by morning. It had looked clean on the surface, but this is what I’d expect from an old motel by a highway. I definitely wouldn’t stop there again.
