I liked this motel a lot. The old-fashioned interior has character, while the bed and blankets are new and comfortable. Everything was very clean, cleaner than some newer places I've stayed. There's no TV, which I appreciated since I find watching one a waste of time and don't like the tacky look. I think pretentious city people are the ones who don't care for it.

We were happy with the restaurant here, eating there four nights straight and enjoying everything we ordered. They make a lot from scratch, even grinding their own hamburger meat, and there's a little convenience store too. Baker doesn't have many other restaurant choices, but that wasn't a problem for us. The rooms are dated, though very clean, with comfortable beds. Staff were super friendly and accommodating with every request. We chose the motel to be near Great Basin N. P., and it's a solid place to stay for a park visit.

I stopped here while biking across America. The room was clean and the food was good, but the TV situation was disappointing: none in the rooms, and the one in the lounge didn't work. Things in the convenience store were overpriced.

At about 2:00-2:30 a.m. on Nov 7-8, my partner and I were asleep in Room 9 at the Border Inn when someone was given a key to our locked room and walked in. We woke as they opened the door and stepped inside. They left as soon as they realized it was occupied, but it was frightening and left us feeling exposed. Neither of us could get back to sleep because of the anxiety afterward. I reported it at checkout. The employee just said “sorry about that” and didn't seem to understand how serious it was. Another employee later that morning suggested I email management, so I sent a detailed account on Nov 14. By Nov 30, I still had no reply, apology, explanation, acknowledgment, or sign the problem was being addressed. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and motels around the world, and I know mistakes happen. But most places have a second privacy lock that can't be opened from outside. Without one here, this was possible. Whatever the cause, another guest should never be able to enter a room. This suggests serious problems with staff training and/or control of room keys. Given the lack of follow-up as well, I can't recommend the property. Until the Border Inn improves its security procedures and retrains staff to handle room access safely, I'd advise others to stay elsewhere for their peace of mind.
