Western Inn

The bed was comfortable enough for a good night's sleep, there were no bugs, and a Domino's Pizza was within walking distance. The water got hot, though the pressure was extremely low, and there were plenty of TV channels. The non-smoking room still smelled of pot and cigarette smoke, like the rest of the hotel. Its carpeted floor, bedding, furniture, sink, and walls showed stains, smoke holes, cigarette burns, and phone numbers written all over them. The woman at the counter was looking at her phone and barely acknowledged me when I arrived. Prices were higher in person, so I booked through a third party. I had to ask several times before she checked my reservation, then waited about 10 minutes for the room key.

When I first moved here for college, I lived at the hotel and didn't have a real complaint. I later found a house, but it flooded last year, so I'm back at the same place. Western Inn has had a full renovation since then. The room was very, very clean, and I was glad to have a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, and iron and board. The front desk clerks were nice, and the rates are reasonable. I think the bad reviews are from crazy people who work at other hotels and are trying to hurt a very nice hotel's business. The refrigerator, microwave, and TV all worked well, and the hotel gave us a roof and some heat in the cold weather. My family and I stayed three nights in room 110, which had two full size beds. The room was supposed to be non-smoking, but it smelled of smoke. The shower wasn't clean: someone had left a white bar of soap on the top ledge, and the tub was slick. We ran out of towels. At the front desk they were out, and I was told to wait for housekeeping. After an hour I gave up waiting, showered, and dried off with a hand towel. The blow dryer didn't work.

For just over $300 a week, we had a comfortable King size bed and a great nine-day stay a few weeks ago. The place had recently been renovated, the rooms were clean, and there were no bugs. Everyone was nice and super helpful, including the owner, who I met. Our room smelled musty at first, but cleaning the AC air filter cleared it up. Honestly, I have to do that at just about every hotel, and I travel a lot for work, so it seems normal.
