Motel 6 Bakersfield, CA - Convention Center

The room wasn’t ready until 5pm. I arrived at 10am and was told to wait until 3pm, so the early check-in claim was false. The dryers were all broken, the room doors looked damaged like they’d been broken into, and the rooms were stained and dirty. Not worth the money, go somewhere else if you can.

The location is handy for the convention center and restaurants, with a clean, safe convenience store within walking distance. The staff and cleaning crew were great, did daily “safety checks,” and worked around my preferred cleaning schedule. That said, my non-smoking room smelled so strongly of pot that my partner and I got headaches. Other guests were loud at odd hours, stomping, moving around, and opening and closing doors. Many outlets and phone cords were loose, the vending machine worked poorly, and the bathroom sink had awful water pressure. There was also foot traffic through the lot at all hours, including homeless people coming from the nearby store and canal. I’d suggest it for a short stay if you only need a clean bed and shower and aren’t bothered by those issues.

The front desk staff were extremely rude. After I checked out, I was waiting outside for my Uber at 11:30 in the morning when they told me I couldn’t be on Motel 6 property. I’ve never been treated with such disrespect as a customer. I’d strongly recommend finding another hotel nearby.

The inside of the rooms and the outside have always seemed clean to me. Day and swing shift staff are friendly and capable, but the young woman on nights is very unfriendly and has a real attitude. She should be fired. The heater only blows cold air, and management doesn’t seem to care or fix it. They just want your money. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Go somewhere that fixes its problems. I’ll never return.
