The Padre Hotel

After five hours on the freeway, I was worn out, but the valet staff welcomed me so kindly that I felt better right away. The front desk was helpful and got me checked in fast. The room was great, and I had a very comfortable stay.

I keep coming back to The Padre Hotel whenever I’m in Bakersfield. The building has historic character but still feels comfortable and modern, with great beds and distinctive bathrooms and showers. The staff is outstanding, and both the hotel restaurant and the many nearby dining spots are excellent. The internet is also much faster than at most hotel chains. I’d like to see 4k or smart TVs to bring the rooms up to the same modern standard, but I’ll continue staying here on every visit. One of my favorite hotels.

The people at The Padre are a big part of why I’d stay there again. Sara at the front desk, Alexis the food services manager, Celeste at Farmacy cafe, Iman in housekeeping, and John the bartender at Brimstone Bar all contributed to the service. I had a few ordinary wear-and-tear maintenance issues in my room, but they were fixed pretty quickly. The preserved historic building has a really cool country-chic feel, and it’s great to see it updated after being derelict. Downtown Bakersfield looked much cleaner and more revitalized than on my last visit four years ago, too. The city doesn’t always get the love it deserves compared with California’s bigger cities. This is the only hotel I’d choose in Bakersfield, and it’s worth every dollar. Definitely stay here when visiting “The Bake”.

We were heading home to Santa Cruz from the Grand Canyon and needed a dog-friendly place to stay in Bakersfield. I asked ChatGPT for the best option, and it sent us here. The hotel was beautiful, and everyone was so nice. I can’t believe it’s in Bakersfield. Who knew?
