Spark by Hilton Bakersfield Central

The public-use items I touched were all sticky, so be careful handling food things. Hot showers were a problem, and the place was noisy. Housekeeping probably won’t come unless you flag someone down in the hall. Avoid rooms 219 and 206. There’s more I could say, but use your judgment here.

The room was large, the bed super comfortable, and the bathroom looked new. I check every corner because I’m a germaphobe, and this room was immaculate. The staff clearly do a great job cleaning, which matches the other reviews I’d read. Breakfast included eggs, bagels, pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, and more. It’s right by the highway and was very affordable. I’d highly recommend it!

The room was really clean, the front desk guy was nice, and when I asked about the price difference he didn’t charge us for our pet. So the extra cost worked out. Breakfast was okay, nothing special but enough. Getting our moving truck into the lot was a pain, since there wasn’t parking for anything larger than an SUV. We had to cross two traffic lanes and cut through a gas station lot to get positioned. Our window also faced a Chinese restaurant. Small hassles, but worth knowing about. I stayed the night of 1/17/26 and nearly skipped it because the reviews made me skeptical. A lot of the negative ones seemed exaggerated and almost funny, though, and I’m glad I gave it a try. The online price said 118, but somehow we ended up paying about 147. I’d stay here again if I were tired in Bakersfield.

The complimentary breakfast is simple, with bagels, cereal, boiled eggs, and oatmeal. Nothing fancy, but coffee and hot water with tea bags are available all day. I was unsure about staying because of the mixed reviews, but ended up having a decent visit. I booked a king room, and it looked new and clean, apart from a few spiderwebs in the AC corner while I unpacked. The bed was soft and comfortable. Both the standing lamp and bedside lamp flickered, and I could clearly hear people walking upstairs. Light sleepers might want earplugs.
