The hotel dates back to 1948, but it’s been kept in fantastic shape and updated. It still feels classy, without the sticker shock of other nearby Bal Harbour hotels. The lobby chandelier is iconic, and the pool area out back is great. Both the beach behind the hotel and the pool deck have complimentary chairs, towels, umbrellas, and tables. I’d give it 4.5/5: one sheet in my room had a visible stain, though it wasn’t a serious issue.

I lowered my rating from 3 to 1 after the pool attendant yelled at me and grabbed at my towels. I’d taken one from a bench, and he was angry, saying the hotel would provide towels. I had seashells wrapped in a towel, and he was tugging at it, looming over me, yelling and demanding answers. Chill out, it wasn’t that serious. I’m from out of state. I wish I’d read the reviews first: the place is definitely old and expensive. I paid almost $800 for an “oceanfront” room, but from the second floor I could mostly see the pool. For that price, I expected something on the fifth to seventh floor. You can tell it’s a very old hotel.

At $500 a night, this really wasn’t worth it. The place smelled a bit, and the rooms were very humid. The bathroom ventilation was dirty and didn’t work. We asked twice to have it fixed, but nobody came. The fridges didn’t have water either.

The beds and sheets were very good and extremely clean, and we enjoyed the pool and beach. Everyone was friendly. The restaurant’s food selection was very limited, though, and much of the hotel felt dated. The facilities were quite old, including the balcony chairs, which weren’t very clean. The furniture and equipment overall felt outdated.

The location is good and it’s a nice hotel, but the staff weren’t the most pleasant. The car attendant was rude, and I don’t see a reason to charge $30 a day for parking.
