Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Frederick

We had to book at the last minute while traveling, and this place really came through. The people and facilities were better than we expected. Our room was clean and updated, and breakfast was very pleasant.

We only stayed one night while passing through, and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel had been remodeled six months earlier. The workout room was bigger than most hotel gyms, and the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating.

It was quiet, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and really nice pillows. The decor felt calm and modern, and the location was perfect. I also appreciated small touches like a cover over the peephole and a strip at the bottom of the door to block hallway noise and light. The staff were friendly.

The bed was the worst part of this stay. I suspect the detergent may have changed, since my legs started itching badly after I’d slept at the Courtyard Marriott the night before. I wore three-quarter-length pants and scratched until my legs looked white. The itching stayed on my mind, and after a long shower it eased up. Later, after running around, it came back when I went to bed. I washed my legs again, put a mask on them, and slept on top of the covers. That seemed to do the trick, and I’m not itching now. I haven’t asked about the detergent yet, though I will. I’ve stayed at Marriotts off and on since April. I’m between homes and spending a lot of time in hotels. I recently gave one Marriott stay all excellent ratings because it felt less comfortable than I like, even though the rates were similar. This time I wanted to share what happened. I book through third parties, so I checked what room I’d get before booking. It was almost 8 p.m. and the lot was empty, but the desk clerk said, like a woman at the building behind this one had on another night, that there were no first-floor rooms. When I questioned that, he found one, #108. I said okay, since I thought I’d stayed in that room before, but I was mistaken, it had been #118. He said “GOTCHA” when I agreed, but I booked anyway. I didn’t like that room and accepted his original suggestion to stay upstairs instead. He asked in a stern voice if something was wrong with the room. I know that’s a normal question, but it reminded me of the negative exchange I’d had with the front desk at the other building. He quickly dropped the attitude and gave me a higher-floor room, which I liked, so I let go of the negativity. Then I went to get a cart for my things. I always make several trips with a cart to unload my car. The clerk said he had none and had already told several people that. When I asked how I was meant to take everything upstairs, he shrugged and said he was just covering the shift, not the manager. There’s a Courtyard across the street and a Residence behind the Fairfield. I’d stayed at the Courtyard the previous two nights, but went to the Residence to ask for a cart. The person there had three sitting around and kindly let me use one. I wheeled it across the lot and kept it overnight because I was afraid there wouldn’t be any carts in the morning for my five to seven bags. I’ve attached photos of returning the cart. I had to make room for it and wondered which cart didn’t belong. As I left, a woman with one bag congratulated me on having the only cart in the building. I should have congratulated her for having just one bag.
